Croft - 17th & 18th April |

Michelin Porsche Club Championship - double-header: The Michelin Porsche Club 2004 season kicked off to a promising start with a double-header event at Croft in North Yorkshire last weekend. The weather played a big factor throughout the weekend with testing, qualifying and races all on varying track conditions. Ian White (3.2 Carrera) took pole for the first race of the season, followed by Rod Carman (3.2 Carrera) and the Class 2 Carrera 3 of Richard Lambert starting in 3rd. John Williams (3.2 Carrera) had a flying start from fourth and was in the lead by turn 1, but his good fortune didn't hold out as he spun at Sunny on lap 3, fortunately he was able to rejoin but was 13th. |

Carman now took the lead with White and Peter Morris (968CS) chasing. On lap 9 Carman and White spun after contact, and Morris also spun on the grass to avoid them. With the lead three otherwise occupied Chris Egginton (968CS), who had a fantastic start from 10th on the grid, took the lead and claimed the first win of the season. White, Carman and Morris continued their battle for podium finishes but Carman's day ended in the gravel at turn 1 on the penultimate lap, after a challenge from White. Class 2 was dominated by Richard Lambert who finished fourth on the road and Class 2 winner, a great start to his season particularly as he'd chosen to play his Joker on this opening round. |
Race 2 on the Sunday was wet and the rear-engined 911's of White, Williams and Lambert got the jump on the front-engined 968's of Egginton and Morris. John Williams moved past White to take the lead on lap 3, where he drove a faultless race to take the race 2 win, with a 12 second lead. Egginton, who's poor start from pole had put him back in 5th, moved ahead of team-mate Morris on lap 6. He got past Lambert on the next lap to then chase White for 2nd. He made his move on White at turn 1 and went up into to 2nd place, only to throw it away on the penultimate lap on the exit of the Esses. This moved White back up into 2nd and Morris back onto the podium for a second 3rd in Class. Richard Lambert once again dominated the Class 2 runners and took his second Class 2 win, third on the road and 7 seconds ahead of David Botterill (924 Carrera GT). |

 Chamberlain & Lewin in Race 2 |
Michelin Porsche Open Series - double-header: The Porsche Open season got underway at Croft with a double-header that was dominated by Richard Chamberlain's extensively re-built 935. In the dry race on Saturday Chamberlain got off to a great start and claimed the first Open win of the season, 27 seconds ahead of Class 1 rival Rupert Lewin (996 GT2R). In Class 2 Henry Firman (GT3) claimed his first Class win, with Paul Howells (993) taking Class 3 victory. |
|
The new Class 4 944's enjoyed some close racing, with Tim Bevan on good pace and taking the fastest lap, but his spin at Sunny gave the lead away to Alex Eacock, who managed to hold Bevan off to take the first Porsche Open Class 4 victory. On Sunday the Porsche Open race was on a wet, but drying track and once again Chamberlain dominated to collect his second win of the weekend. The Class wins were also a duplicate of the day before with Firman, Howells and Eacock putting in strong starts to the season with double wins. |
