PRESS RELEASE Michelin Porsche Open Series
Stepping up a Class
Henry Firman is stepping up a Class in the Michelin Porsche Open Series when he competes in his newly acquired Porsche GT3 Cup car at Oulton Park next weekend [11 October].
Firman explains: “The GT3 is a current model that I think has longevity as a competitive, front-running car. I also feel that running alongside other GT3’s in Class 2 means the results are based on driver ability and set up, rather than a particular models suitability to a circuit.”
With very little opportunity for track time between purchasing the 911virgin.com backed GT3 and competing in the consecutive Oulton Park [11 Oct] and Donington Park [18-19 Oct] rounds, Firman will use these events as essentially familiarisation and testing opportunities in preparation for a serious 2004 campaign.
Gordon Wardle of Team GVR who will be running the car said: “This is a natural progression for Henry. The GT3 is considerably faster and a much less forgiving environment that the Class 3 993 he’s been running this year, however Henry’s determination and technical ability will stand him in good stead to progress quickly within Class 2”.
Ends.
