Michelin Porsche Club Championship - double-header:
The Michelin Porsche Club 2003 season concluded in dramatic style last weekend at Donington Park, with the overall and class 1 and 2 winners only decided in the last of the two races.
Race 1:
Qualifying saw Colin Broster (3.2 Carrera) take pole position fractionally ahead of Ian White (3.2 Carrera) & Tony Brown (968CS), with Rod Carman (911SC) in his debut race this season in 4th place.
Carman had a fantastic start and was first through Redgate, with White, Broster & Brown in pursuit. A first corner incident put debut Club racer Peter Morris (968CS) out and Rob Williams in his Class 2 3.0 Carrera to the back of the grid. Carman & White fought nose to tail for the full 12 laps of the race, with White taking the lead at lap 6 & Carman snatching it back at McLeans on the penultimate lap to take a sweet victory in the ex-Paul Tilleard 911SC he had only purchased days earlier. This seasons Class 1 championship contenders Colin Broster & Tony Brown fought an exceptionally hard and close race, which resulted in Broster finishing 3rd, but only a nose ahead of Browns 968CS after a full 12 laps of action & excitement between the two. |

The Class 2 battle that has been raging all season between David Rothwell (911SC) and Richard Lambert (Carrera 3.0) came to Donington with Lambert just 1 point ahead. However handling problems in qualifying for Lambert gave Rothwell the advantage and Rothwell went on to take the Class 2 win, finishing over 9 seconds ahead of Lambert who came 2nd.
Race 2:
The grid was formed on the race 1 results. Once again Carman had a great start, with White, Broster & Brown chasing hard. Unfortunately Brown's 968CS ran wide through Coppice on the first lap and re-joined at the back of the pack. Brown fought hard for the next 11 laps following Peter Morris' 968CS, who had started from the back of the grid, through the traffic to produce some exciting racing with Morris finishing 5th & Brown 6th in Class 1. |
Broster managed to get ahead of White and chased Carman until lap 9, when his ABG team-mate let him pass to take a vital victory.
In Class 2 Rothwell managed to once again dominate to take the win and claim Class 2 & overall championship honours, just ahead of Richard Lambert, who had a good race with Tom Segrue (944S2) but had to settle for 3rd when Segrue passed him on the penultimate lap. |

Class 3 results:
1st - Ian Oliver (911E); 2nd - John Williams (911E); 3rd - Derek Gregory (924S)
Michelin Porsche Open Series - double-header:
Race 1:
The Porsche Open season dominator Richard Chamberlain (935) had an unusually bad qualifying session after a minor off, leaving him to start behind Peter Cook (911) and Rupert Lewin (996 GT2R).
Cook had a good start leaving Chamberlain and Lewin to chase. There was some great, clean racing at the front, with Cook holding Chamberlain off until lap 6 when he managed to pass at the chicane. Chamberlain took the win, but only 2.5 seconds ahead of Cook, with Lewin having to settle for 3rd.
Jonathon Cocker (GT3) headed Class 2, with the GT3's of Craig Rapp and Nick James starting 2nd & 3rd. Cocker took a convincing Class win and 4th overall, with Jason Young (GT3) getting ahead of James on lap 9 to finish 2nd, with James taking 3rd in class. |
 | David Forsbrey (993 RSR) in his 2003 Porsche Open debut, clinched 1st in Class 3 qualifying ahead of Peter Morris (964RS) & Paul Howells (993 SuperCup). After a hard fought race, Morris held on to an early lead to take the class win, with Howells and Forsbrey picking up 2nd & 3rd.

Race 2:
Chamberlain held the lead for the start of race 2, with Cook hard on his heels for the full 12 laps. Unfortunately the lead battle came to a dramatic conclusion on the last lap, when Chamberlain and Cook exited the Chicane almost side by side, before Cook lost it and crashed heavily into the pit lane wall. Thankfully Cook was unhurt, but it was a sad end to what had been an exceptional race.
Jonathon Cocker collected his 2nd win of the day in Class 2 and a 3rd on the road, with Rapp picking up 2nd after Jason Young had to retire on lap 6, putting Mark Butler in 3rd.
Class 3 saw a fantastic battle, Paul Howells took the lead into Redgate with Morris & Forsbrey in hot pursuit. On lap 3 Howells made a mistake and Morris squeezed through and managed to pull out a slight lead as Howells and Forsbrey battled for 2nd place. Forsbrey, who had stayed hard on the tail of Howells, managed to pass him on the last lap to take 2nd. |
